Cultural day

On Friday in the hall all of the Syndicate went to the Church and we had syndicate mass.So the theme of the mass was diversity.

My group who studied Peru had to share what we learnt.  We had to do this by searching for facts and finding pictures and it was fun.

Room 7 students studied the UK, Italy, Greece, Spain and Germany.

Next it was room 6 and it was fun and it was a good experience. They showed us their work about Asia. India, China, Thailand, Japan. I liked the group who did a dance about China.

We had our turn to present and it was really fun sharing everything that we had learnt about our countries.

They couldn’t swim because there was a shark.  The lifeguard was ringing the bell and people were coming out of the water.  James and Luke didn’t want to hop out so they just kept swimming.  they  keep on swimming and they didn’t cark

The lifeguards came in and pulled them out of the water.  The boys got in big trouble because they weren’t listening to the lifeguards.

Pool Description

The pool is 15 metres long and 1 metre deep.  Our instructors names were Jilian and Kevin.

The pool is big and it is cold like a freezer. It is inside a marquee which looks like a big white tent. There is a strong metal gate this makes the pool safe.

I like that the pool is big and we can all fit it.

We went to the church for Mass on Tuesday morning with St Joseph school to celebrate Catholic Schools Day. We all sang together in the church to praise God and worship Him. Father Ioane said a prayer and welcomed St Joseph to our school. After mass we had Room 2 come and have lunch with us. We buddied up with a friend but I did not have one. The schools went all together in the hall for a concert my favourite was our ‘Cup song’.

Simile and Metephor

Similes and Metaphors
A simile is where two things are directly compared because they share a common feature. The word AS or LIKE is used to compare the two words. Eg. As cold AS a dog's nose
A metaphor also compares two things, but it does so more directly WITHOUT using as or like. Eg. The shop was a little gold-mine.
Task One
At the end of the sentence, write in brackets whether the sentence is an example of a metaphor or simile.
Eg. The clouds were fluffy like cotton wool. (SIMILE)

  1. As slippery as an eel. (SIMILE)
  2. Arnie was a man-mountain.(Metaphors)
  3. He was a lion in battle.(Metaphors)
  4. She is as pretty as a picture.(SIMILE)
  5. The striker was a goal machine.(Metaphors)
  6. The torch lit up the room as if the sun had risen early.(SIMILE)
  7. The moon was a misty shadow.(Metaphors)
  8. My friend has a face like a bag of spanners.(SIMILE)

Task Two
Now you are going to make up similes of your own by copying and finishing these sentences.
For example:
As good as gold

  1. As heavy as a rock.
  2. As cold as a  winter.
  3. As hard as a rock.
  4. She had skin like a Tiger.
  5. As cool as a man.
  6. As quick as a fox.
  7. He was slow like a snail
  8. Slippery like a eel
